ALIVE

Maa often told me
To wipe my tears
And burn my fears,
Ordering strength
Out of me

Did you not see
The scars upon my
Thighs
Did you not feel
The pain behind smiles
Did you not want to
Acknowledge
That your daughter was
Shattered beyond repair?

She still is, mama
But that doesn’t matter
Pieces or whole
She owns her soul
So please, don’t worry
Talk to me
Tell me what keeps you
Up at night,
What makes you check on
Me at 2 AM
When I lie wide awake
Feigning sleep
Because I don’t want to
Explain
Why I am in pain

Sleep tight tonight
Leave your worries aside
I’m here, right here
Sing me that lullaby
The one that makes the
Demons hide
Behind the ominous
moonlight
Because they know my
Mama is here
Right by my side
And she knows how to
Keep me alive.

Thanks a lot for the lovely feedback, means a lot to me!
I think this poem depicts mixed emotions. I’m grateful to have a caring mother but at the same time I want her to know that it’s okay to be vulnerable & broken. I want her to know that I’m not fine but that doesn’t mean it’s the end. All mothers want their kids to be happy but when they can’t accept their children feeling depressed then it sort of creates a communication barrier where a child doesn’t want to hurt their mom by speaking openly about his/her sorrows. It’s definitely an emotional glitch that distorts open conversations between kids & parents.
      Hope this helps!
