Normal

It’s tiring at this point,
Or at any point for that matter; To force myself.

Hell, I don’t even know
Why we laugh at jokes
And cry at funerals.

(That’s what normal people do, right?)

Stand up straight,
Man up, kill those tears,
Get in shape
Go chase butterflies
And if you fall in a puddle
There’s always
Second chance.

What if I never
Chased butterflies, only watched them from afar?
What if I was born
In a puddle…no,
I was born in an
Ocean devoid of
Second chances?

I can’t stand straight,
Fuck, I won’t kill my tears,

I’m an untamed river,
Flowing directionless
Unheeded
Crashing headlong
Into a fountain
Of despair.

In love with my loneliness,
I cherish every tear
That’s engraved
Upon my cheeks
Rendered
Invisible
By a smile.

(Because that’s what normal people do, hiding everything behind a smile).

  1. In love with my loneliness, I love that line. That doesn’t mean you’re lonely, it just means you like being alone and there’s a difference between alone and lonely. What is normal? It’s something I’d rather not be, I’ve never been good with conformity. That’s why mask were invented though, so everyone can dress up like they’re normal, right,πŸ€”

    1. Indeed. This reminds of a quote, “7 billion people & 14 billion faces”, it took me quite sometime to understand what it meant.
At some point it’s important to be normal I suppose, after all we’re social animals & need to get along with fellow animals. (Now it’s an entirely different story that we’re unable to confirm to societal norms 😁)

      1. Hahaha!! Very true, very true indeed, and I love that quote. It goes along with my quote, β€œWe say we’re only one person but we act out life as two.”
Why be normal? To get along with other normals, if that’s the case, I’d rather be a hyena and laugh at all the normal social animals.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜œ

    1. It sure is a coping mechanism that more or less tends to absorb our differences to a point where fitting in matters more that standing out & embracing our uniqueness.

      Thank you so much!! 😊🌸
